Toronto-Born Redemptorist Priest Appointed Bishop of Diocese of Pembroke

Fr. Michael BrehlOn Tuesday, June 11, 2024 His Holiness Pope Francis announced the appointment of Toronto-born Fr. Michael Brehl, C.Ss.R. as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Pembroke.

Fr. Brehl is currently serving as the Provincial Superior of the Redemptorists of Canada in addition to his duties as Associate Pastor at St. Patrick’s Parish in downtown Toronto. He had previously spent time serving in Windsor, Toronto and Sudbury as well as in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He also served as Superior General for the Redemptorists in Rome, Italy from 2009 to 2022.

Fr. Brehl will be installed as the 10th Bishop of Pembroke on August 15, 2024, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Columbkille in Pembroke.
