Sacramental Preparation

Message for First Holy Communion Families - April 10th 2021

Dear Parents,

We thank you for your participation in our virtual preparation program for First Holy Communion and we hope you are enjoying this journey together with your children.  If you have not already done so, we encourage you to have your child complete their lamb activity as soon as possible and send us a photo.

We were hoping that Covid restrictions would be eased and we would be allowed to gather at 30% capacity in the church after Easter, to celebrate First Communion masses.  Unfortunately, this does not seem likely in the near future and so we are going ahead with plans to celebrate masses reduced to 15% capacity under the current heath restrictions.   That means only 80 people will be allowed in the church for mass.

As we explained when you registered your child, attendance at mass will be limited to immediate family only -that is the child, mother, father, brothers and sisters.  Extended family and friends will be able to view the celebration masses via livestream.  We have more than 160 children registered to receive the sacrament this year.

First Communion masses will be held on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. and  1:00 p.m.,  beginning in the month of May and continuing into June.  In the next two weeks, you will receive an email advising you of your assigned date.  Once you have submitted your child’s lamb and accepted your date, we will add you to the parish list of children receiving the sacrament this year.

We realize this is short notice and we thank you for your continued cooperation in joyfully preparing your child for this wonderful day.

A note about First Reconciliation

In past years at Holy Family, the sacrament of Reconciliation was celebrated by each child individually.  The parish set aside a number of days and times where children could come to church with their parents and speak to a priest.   Because of ongoing health restrictions, reconciliation can now only happen by appointment, in the back hall at the church.  This makes it practically impossible to schedule an appointment time for all the children, before First Communion masses in May and June.

The Church tells us that First Reconciliation is encouraged but not mandatory before First Communion.  And so in these difficult circumstances, we would like to reassure you that although we may not celebrate Reconciliation now, we hope to arrange an opportunity for the children to celebrate this important sacrament later in the year.

Message for Confirmation Families - April 10th 2021

Dear Parents,

Thank you for participating in our on-line preparation sessions.  We hope you are enjoying this journey together with your children.  If you have not already done so, we encourage you to have your child submit their Letter of Intent, as soon as possible.  We cannot enroll them in the celebration masses for Confirmation without it.

We were hoping that Covid restrictions would be eased and we would be allowed to gather at 30% capacity in the church after Easter, to celebrate Confirmation masses.  Unfortunately, this does not seem likely in the near future and so we are going ahead with plans to celebrate masses reduced to 15% capacity under the current heath restrictions.

As we explained when you registered your child, attendance at the Confirmation celebration masses was to be restricted to immediate family.   We now have over 200 families registered for Confirmation.

Unfortunately under the current restrictions, we must further reduce attendance at Confirmation masses so that we can accommodate everyone.

Attendance will now be limited to mother, father, child and sponsor.

The Confirmation masses will be livestreamed so extended family and friends can watch from home.

Confirmation masses will be scheduled for a weeknight evening at 7:00 p.m. in June.

Masses will be held Monday through Thursday nights and your date will be randomly assigned.

You will receive an email the week of May 3rd advising you of your celebration date for Confirmation.

When Fr. Andrew has received your child’s Letter of Intent and you accept your date, you will be added to the parish list to receive the sacrament in June.

We are sorry to further restrict attendance for this sacramental celebration, but this is the only way we can proceed with Confirmation masses this year.   Please continue to check our Facebook page and our website regularly for updates.

Thank you for you continued cooperation under these challenging circumstances.

Information about Sacramental Celebrations 2021

Although we are still under lockdown restrictions, we are planning for sacramental celebrations in 2021.  Unfortunately because it is not safe to gather, we will be using a virtual format this year.

Here are important things you need to know if you would like your child to celebrate First Holy Communion or Confirmation at Holy Family Parish in 2021.

  • To register, please complete the on-line registration form and email it to the parish office with a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate.  (A scan or photo of the certificate is acceptable.)

The email address is holyfamilyboltonoffice@gmail.com

  • The registration form is available on the parish website and on our Facebook page.

Website: holyfamilybo.archtoronto.org

Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/HolyFamilyBolton

*Our Facebook page is a public platform. You do not have to have a Facebook profile to access our spiritual reflections and updates

  • There will be no meetings at the church.  All preparation lessons will be conducted virtually.  Children and parents will be required to complete 6 video lessons, in preparation to receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation.
  • We cannot tell you when the sacramental celebrations might happen in 2021. If the current situation improves and the church is reopened, we hope we will be able to gather in May and   June.  Unfortunately, we are unable to schedule dates while the pandemic restrictions continue to change.
  • Attendance at sacramental celebrations will be restricted in 2021.

First Holy Communion attendance will be limited to the child’s immediate family only –that is mother, father, brother(s) and sister(s).

Confirmation attendance will be limited to the child’s immediate family- that is mother, father, brother(s) and sister(s) and the Confirmation sponsor.

We understand that the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic make everything more difficult.  We will do everything we can, to help you to prepare for and joyfully celebrate these important events in your child’s spiritual life.

Registration for First Holy Communion and Confirmation will be open until Jan 31st, 2021.  If you wish to participate this year, please do not delay in submitting your registration.
